Seun Kuti to Remain in Detention as Police Gets New Court Order
Nigerian musician and saxophonist Seun Kuti will remain in Police custody until at least Monday as Police continue investigations after he was caught on video slapping a police officer.
Seun’s attorney Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) on Thursday said that the Lagos State Police command had secured a court order to keep the embattled musician in custody until Monday. This comes 2 days after the court granted him conditional bail to be met within 48 hours.
Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) disclosed this while speaking with Channels Television in an interview on Thursday. According to him, the Police approached the Magistrate court to vary the bail earlier granted to the singer and son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti. The Magistrate refused to vary the bail but extended Seun’s detention by 4 days.
Seun had no representative in court when the order was issued as Olumide-Fusika said that the Police did not inform the legal team of the defendant that they were due in court. The order was already granted by the time he made it to the court in Yaba.
